Description

The Communications Specialist is one of three teammates that works together on day-to-day communications operations. As the right-hand person to the Director of Communications, this position is instrumental in ensuring the implementation of key messages with GMC's mission, vision, and strategic plan via social media and other outlets for communication. This individual researches, interviews, collects, and creates written and video content for use in the institution’s publications and digital platforms. The Communications Specialist spearheads administrative duties, content creation including social media, event support, and serves as the main photographer and videographer for all institutional events.

  • Work closely with the Deputy Director and Director of Communications to ensure that all key messages align seamlessly with GMC's mission, vision, and strategic plan
  • Serves as the lead long-form writer for publications, and any narratives needed
  • Contribute to the development and execution of comprehensive communication strategies
  • Serve as the principal video content creator and editor, maintaining high standards of quality, creativity, and brand consistency
  • Capture and create content for social media platforms to include the Prep School, Junior College, Corps of Cadets, and Alumni Association
  • Monitor all social media outlets for the institution, ensuring timely responses to messages, inquiries, and comments
  • Demonstrate proficiency in creating and editing written, video, and photo content
  • Support the AVP of Communications, Director, and Deputy Director in crafting key messages for internal and external use
  • Collaborate with the Deputy and Director of Communications to plan and execute communication strategies for key events
  • Serve as the main photographer and videographer for all institutional events, capturing memorable moments and maintaining a visually compelling record
  • Lead efforts to enhance and update the official website and all digital presence, showcasing the Communications Department's content with accuracy, relevance, and visual appeal

Manage administrative tasks for the department, including Purchase Orders (POs), information gathering, scheduling, and other duties as needed

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate’s Degree
  • 2+ years relevant experience
  • Ability to take high quality photos and video, photo and video editing skills,
  • Ability to collaborate, take direction, and meet tight deadlines

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications or equivalent
  • 4+ years relevant experience
  • Experience within an educational environment.
  • Drone certification
