Georgia Military College is now accepting applications for a Director of Facility Operations. This full-time position is located at GMC Main Campus in Milledgeville, GA. The Director of Facility Operations is responsible for providing leadership and direction to the Maintenance, Grounds, Custodial, and Safety & Environmental Departments of Georgia Military College. The Director of Facility Operations will assist the VP of Auxiliary Services & Facility Operations in all aspects of Auxiliary & Facility Operations. The Director is primarily responsible for maintenance oversight, operations, program management, and personnel management including system and software management for data bases and control systems.
Primary Responsibilities
Administration
- Develops and institutes Facilities policies and procedures.
- Works with other departments and outside vendors to manage special events.
- Keeps VP for Auxiliary Services & Facility Operations aware of campus-related issues, and advises course of action.
- Participates in the identification, review, approval and management of all major campus repair and renovation requests.
- Assist Facility Managers in the planning and coordination of auxiliary operations/support for routine, special, and emergent events—all areas
- Plan, budget, and oversee the execution of all facility projects including direct involvement in the oversight of state-funded (MMR) campus projects.
- Manage and ensure that all employee training requirements and environmental and safety regulations are followed.
- Interface with the Senior Vice President, Chief Academic Officer for GMC’s coordinated accreditation through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges and maintain all data required within facility operations to support our compliance with federal and other requirements.
- Reviews and approves departmental expenditures.
- Manages leave and payroll for direct employees.
- Assists VP of Auxiliary Services & Facility Operations
Maintenance & Operations
- Provides in depth maintenance expertise for the numerous HVAC systems, Life Safety Systems, smoke evacuation systems, work order systems, light control systems and other technology used by GMC.
- Coordinates with vendors, contractors, and personnel to ensure operations are compliant with rules, regulations and contracts.
- Leads the coordination and scheduling of maintenance, repairs, and construction for campus buildings.
- Manages installation, maintenance and repair of campus signage.
- Displays proven record of supervisory duties and employee development.
- Oversees FMX (work order system) and ensures equitable workload distribution, up-to-date preventive maintenance, and accuracy of data in the system.
- Operates campus equipment and vehicles, including golf carts.
- Manage and administer the Satellite Campus Internal Review Program, Main Campus Zone Inspection program and the Main Campus Building Fire Safety Inspection Program.
- Schedule routine inspections and emergency repairs with outside contractors as needed to support campus operations.
- Prepare facilities for changing weather and environmental conditions.
Project Management
- Coordinates maintenance staff to ensure in-house projects are completed on schedule and within budget.
- Functions as project manager for MRR, Task Order, and other campus facility projects including new building construction/building renovations.

Qualifications
Education
Required:
- Bachelor's Degree OR a minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in operational project management and/or facility operations
Preferred:
- Master’s Degree
Experience
Required:
- 3+ years supervisory experience and either degree or equivalent experience
- Experience in facilities management, or related roles
- Demonstrated experience in capital project management
- Knowledge of facility maintenance, custodial operations, groundskeeping
- Knowledge of applicable environmental and safety regulations and industry standards.
Preferred:
- 5+ years progressive experience in higher education/K-12 or military facilities management
- Retired military
Skills
Required:
- Proficient computer skills including complex databases and spreadsheets, work order/maintenance software, and payroll software.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships at all levels.
Preferred:
- Technical/mechanical troubleshooting skills, blueprint reading, and a mechanical aptitude required.
- Experience coordinating a multifaceted organization with numerous daily requirements and special taskings to include the ability to recognize challenges and shift resources in a timely manner.
- HVAC experience with a variety of commercial and residential systems.
